The County Government of Siaya has ordered that roads in the county especially those in K'Ogelo be carpeted afresh ahead of former US President Barack Obama's July 16 visit.
Deputy Governor, Dr James Okumbe said on Thursday that the move is envisaged at easing movement of both local and international security personnel as well as dignitaries who will attend Obama's scheduled events when he visits the county where his father was born.
Speaking to KTN News, Okumbe said security has also been beefed up in both Siaya and Kisumu ahead of the tour.
"We are currently working on the roads because this is a high profile visit," Okumbe told KTN News in a live interview on Thursday.
"The whole world will be watching at us and we won't take any chances. We are working closely with the national government to make sure everything runs smoothly as planned.
Part of the infrastructural upgrade work, he said will involve polishing the roads Obama's motorcade will use.
Earth movers, he added have completed re-carpeting the road that leads to Mama Sarah Obama's home, the former Illinois Senator's grandmother who he is expected to visit.
Obama will be in K'Ogelo to officially open Sauti Kuu, an NGO that is managed by his sister Dr Auma Obama.
He is also expected to hold talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga before flying to South Africa.
