ODM Communications Director Philip Etale, has called for immediate investigations and possible arrest and prosecution of Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji.
This is after squatters in Mombasa's Majaoni Settlement Scheme accused the former Internal Security Minister of grabbing their 84-acre piece of land in 1990s when he served as the Coast Provincial Commissioner.
The family of Kazungu Moli, through its representative, Harry Chogo, said Haji later sold the land to Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a charitable and humanitarian foundation.
"The PC sold the land (Majaoni settlement scheme) for Sh4.8 million when residents were living on it," claimed Chogo, as his father Kazungu Moli, 85 keenly listened during an inquest on Tuesday at the Kenya School of Government.
The National Land Commissioner (NLC) on Tuesday kicked-off a public inquiry into historical land injustices at the Coast with aims investigate all land disputes since 1895, when the Kenyan Coast was taken over from its Omani rulers through the post-independence era.
The NLC inquest committee is chaired by NLC Commissioner Dr Samuel Tororei.
In response, Etale on Wednesday morning said: "DPP Noordin Haji, this is a matter that requires your urgent attention. Act now... Senator Haji now accused of grabbing 84 acre squatter land in Coast in 1990s."
Former Kiambu MP William Kabogo responded to Etale in a Twitter conversation saying: "That’s below the belt Ndugu. Let the man work."
The matter has elicited reactions on Twitter, with Kenyans calling for DPP Haji's urgent move.
According to Miguna Miguna, Kenya's political activist and former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate, Noordin Haji is Senator Haji's son.
In a Facebook post on August 28, 2018, Miguna revealed: "Mr. Noordin Haji is not independent. He is an NIS WEAPONIZED agent who was appointed as @Director of Public Prosecutions by Uhuru Kenyatta without competitive bidding."
"He is the son of Yusuf Haji, the chair of the Mythical Bridges to Nowhere, and a long standing servant of Dictator Daniel arap Moi. Kenyans are not naive or stupid!" added Miguna.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga made Yusuf Haji, the chairman of the joint Building Bridges Initiative committee.
