Controversial, yet viral video ‘Wamlambez’ that was produced by a five-man band called Sailors has gained more than 1 million views with more than 1000 comments on YouTube.
The song which has been the talk of the town has for the past two months been received with mixed reactions with a section of the netizens questioning the morality of its content.
The young artists, nonetheless, once explained on Ebru TV’s Chipukeezy show that they were after content that will be appreciated and listened to.
“When you bring good content that makes sense, people won’t watch it, you see? So we want to give out content that will be appreciated (Ukileta vitu poa zenye kwako zina make sense watu hawata watch na hawataona unacheki? So tunataka kuwapatia vitu zenye wata appreciate)," one of the members of the band explained during the interview.
The controversial song has, however, earned the young singers, not just popularity and attention but also a name in the Kenyan music industry.
Sailors have already produced another song titled ‘Pekejeng’ which currently has more than 300k views and 600 comments.
In recent days, there has been an increased birth of new music bands through the production of similar controversial content. Some of the bands apart from Sailors include Ethic and The Ochungulo family.
