Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has officially joined pro-handshake team following her reunion with women leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
Last week, Mrs Ngilu, a veteran politician, held a lengthy meeting with opposition leader Raila Odinga at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi.
On Saturday, Mrs Ngilu, who had for the first time joined Embrace team, accused DP William Ruto of being anti-reformist in the country, wondering why he opposes everything.
According to Ngilu, Dr Ruto has no audacity to oppose the constitutional changes, arguing that he wanted the very changes in 2010.
“He (Ruto) led the crusade to oppose the enactment of the new Constitution. He is now the loudest to oppose the push to change what we all agreed was to be rectified later,” said Ms Ngilu.
The Narc party leader said the impending referendum should ensure that one of the top three seats in the country is occupied by a woman.
“BBI should also make sure that one of the proposal is to make it obligatory to have a women in one of the three posts at the top,” said Ngilu.
Her sentiments were backed by Mombasa Governor Ali Joho, who called for referendum to fix inequalities in leadership positions in Kenya.
“The future of this country must be ingrained in long-lasting peace. We inherited a divided nation and it is now our time to fix it,” said the governor who criticised those engaging in early campaign.
Dr Ruto has vowed to have the referendum shot down, insisting that the country is not ready to accommodate an expanded executive.
