Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has come out in support of embattled self-proclaimed prophet Edward Owuor amid extortion and fraud allegations.
This comes at a time when the Repentance and Holiness church founder is under probe over allegations of fraudulently acquiring property worth billions in Nairobi.
But speaking in a press conference at Parliament buildings on Thursday, Owino also hit out at the media for concentrating on the pastor and the church at large.
He revealed that he is a follower of Owuor and us actually an alter boy in the church, urging the 'prophet' to carry on with his job and noting that he has forgiven people attacking Owuor.
“We will pray and forgive those fighting the church. Mimi ni mtoto wa misa (I am an alter boy) and I encourage Prophet Owuor to continue serving the flock,” he was quoted as saying.
Among the allegations heaped on Owuor are claims that he dispossessed one of his followers one Mrs Jayne Muthoni an estate worth Sh1.5 billion in Nairobi's Westlands area in 2005.
Muthoni's relatives have claimed that he has been receiving rent from the Shaba Estate residential development for 15 years, allegations detectives are looking into.
Owuor enjoys a cult-like global following and has also declared himself a healer and a performer of miracles.
