A man has ended his one-and-a-half-year relationship with his wife in Tana River County after she served him poorly cooked food.
Mr Said Kofa is said to have divorced his wife, Ms Mariam Hiribae, after she failed to properly cook his favourite Swahili dish, Pilau.
According to Ms Hiribae, her husband who loves pilau has been pressuring her to cook the meal but she has on several occasions admitted that she does not know how to prepare pilau.
Previously, she said she hired someone at a fee to prepare pilau for her husband and Mr Kofa would enjoy the meal with no complain.
On the fateful day, Mr Kofa was at home and he insisted that he wanted her to impress him with her cooking skills.
“I have told him several times that however much I try to learn how to prepare the dish, I never achieve the desired results. I needed more time to practice preparing the meal, but he would hear none of it,” Ms Hiribae said as quoted by Daily Nation.
Left with no choice, Ms Hiribae said she got a recipe from a neighbor and started the cooking process knowing the end result will make his man happy.
After spending two hours in the kitchen the food was ready and she served it to him.
“I took my time to prepare that dish. I tasted it before serving, and it was okay. That was the best I ever did as a learner,” she said.
Mr Kofa after taking his first spoon ran to the wash rooms coughing and spitting out the food.
Ms Hiribae said she went to check on her husband and she was greeted with a slap on the face as the husband accused her of trying to kill him.
In response, Ms Hiribae took a stool and hit him on the head and he started bleeding.
“He has never even pointed a finger at me, but when he lay his hands on me, and accused me of wanting to kill him with a lot of spices in food, I got angry and hit him on the head with a stool,” added the wife.
The husband with blood oozing from his head, went to his in-laws and asked them to pick their “violent daughter” as he went to the hospital for treatment.
The following day, Mr Kofa gave Ms Hiribae a divorce ‘talaka’ as outlined in the Islamic laws saying he did not want her anymore.
