Outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna through a series of tweets castigated the government over the appointment.

Miguna further linked Collymore's appointment to 2017 elections, where according to him, Safaricom was used to steal the election and the appointment is simply a reward.

"Cartels and election thieves have rewarded Mr Bob Collymore for having permitted them to misuse the Safaricom PLC systems to steal the 2017 general election. As the Safaricom PLC CEO, he conspired with cartels to instal useless security cameras in Nairobi. Patriots," tweeted the former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant.

The 2017 presidential general elections were marred with irregularities if the annulment of the election result by the Supreme Court is something to go with.

Miguna opined that the government should have chosen a qualified Kenyan, who are many and unemployed instead of appointing Collymore who has no medical knowledge of cancer.

The Safaricom CEO is a British National and is reportedly preparing to leave the position over health issues.
