Emerging details now indicate that James Kimani Makangu, the man who was jailed for selling cat meat, is a criminal.
Makangu was last week sentenced to three years in jail, after he pleaded guilty to slaughtering and selling the illegal meat contrary to the Section 2 of the Meat Control Act.
This was after he was arrested red-handed slaughtering a cat in an open field opposite the Nakuru Provincial Hospital, after which he confessed having done the same to over 500 cats in the last 7 years, stating that he sells the meat to mutura and samosa traders.
According to his brother, the convict is not new to crime and has been in and out of prison over theft allegations.
The brother who spoke to Citizen Digital on condition of anonymity revealed that Makangu was kicked out of school after beating a teacher.
He added that the family was forced to demolish his house in Kamwaro village, as residents always stormed their home complaining about stolen property.
He added that Makangu is better off in prison, saying that the family will not appeal the ruling.
‘’I would rather he stays in prison than continue being a bother to the society,” the brother said.
Makangu was also convicted for slaughtering an animal in an undesignated location.
