Ndhiwa MP Martin Peters Owino has risen from what can be termed as a junior public health officer to be where he is today.
He defeated former MP Augustino Neto in both Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party primaries and the 2017 general elections for a chance to serve in the 12th Parliament.
The MP served as a public health officer in the Ministry of Health between 1982 and 1990.
He then moved up the ladder to become the National HIV/STD Prevention, Education and Training Coordinator in the ministry, a position he held between 1996 and 2000.
He later left for the United States of America (USA) where he took up the position of Program Director for Health and HIV Special Services.
He held that position at the Veterans Health Service Administration up to the year 2010, before leaving to join Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in USA as a Senior Training and Capacity Building Specialist.
Between 2014 and 2017, Martin Peters Owino served as Chief Officer, Clinical and Public Health Services in the Homabay County Assembly before deciding to vie for an elective political seat.
The Ndhiwa MP is a member of the Health Committee in the National Assembly.
