Kenyans might find themselves on the electoral queue again after the Independent and Electoral Boundary Commission (IEBC) announced that it was looking forward to verifying signatures collected by the Thirdway Alliance Party.
IEBC is set to welcome the bill alongside the collected signatures on 21st February, after the commission’s boss, Wafula Chebukati confirmed on Wednesday in a letter to the Thirdway Alliance Party.
“We write to inform you that the commission is ready to receive your draft bill and signatures on the February 21 at 10 am,” wrote Chebukati.
The party led by Ekuru Aukot, had earlier notified the commission of its intention to present its signatures in a bid to come up with a referendum date.
On Wednesday, Fredrick Okango who is the secretary general of the party told the Standard that they have amassed about 1.39 signatures with more still on the way.
The referendum is mainly targeted at amending the period of time the president is expected to serve as well as reducing the number of Members of Parliament and senators.
The exercise has created a rift between the state's leaders with a section believing that it's just targeted at the incoming 2022 elections instead of a neutral impact.
