UK High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey has dismissed reports that his government has issued a travel advisory for Kenya.
Hailey termed the reports doing rounds on social media and other platforms as baseless.
Earlier reports indicated that the UK government had issued the advisory following the kidnapping of two Cuban doctors.
According to the Daily Nation, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) had cited heightened terror-related incidences as among the reasons behind the travel advisory.
“There’s a heightened threat of terrorism, including terrorist kidnappings, across Kenya,” the FCO statement read in part.
However, moments after the issuance of the statement, Hailey came forth to set the record straight, assuring its citizens that the two governments are committed to working together.
“The UK has not issued a new travel advisory for Kenya. We keep our travel advice regularly updated but today's reports of new warnings or restrictions are false. @UKinKenya,” he said in a tweet on Wednesday.
A new travel advisory would have affected the tourism industry in different parts of the country.
