Residents of Migori County must be cursing the year 2018, because it has not brought any good fortunes to them.

Currently, the residents have to live with the fact that their governor Okoth Obado is in police custody up to the 8th of next month.

He is being accused of having a hand in the murder of Rongo university student Sharon Otieno, whose lifeless body was discovered in Kodera forest, Homabay County early this month.

Ms Otieno was seven-months pregnant with DNA reports indicating that the baby belonged to Obado.

The governor has, however, denied all allegations against him. His supporters believe he is innocent and that his woes are as a result of political witch-hunt, if any.

In June this year, Migori County residents were thrown into mourning following the death of their Senator Ben Oluoch Okello.

He died after a long battle with cancer, less than a year since being elected on the ODM party ticket to replace Dr Wilfred Machage.

The former broadcaster was buried in July as Migori County remained without a Senator.

A by-election is set for October 8, to replace the slain senator.

With governor Obado’s fate still unknown, Migori residents may agree that this year has already provided a handful to them.

This is by all standards the worst year for them since county governments came into effect in 2013.
