Mutua says he has what it takes to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta after his second and final term in office ends.

The vocal lawyer now joins the likes of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua who have declared their interests in the 2022 presidential election.

Born in 1958 and raised in Kitui County, Professor Mutua is among the controversial Law scholars.

He schooled at Kitui School before proceeding to Alliance High School.

Mutua later joined University of Nairobi (UoN) to study Law.

In May 1981, he was arrested and exiled to Tanzania by former President Daniel Arap Moi's administration.

In one of his tweets, the professor says he was arrested, expelled from UoN and exiled for opposing KANU.

“I was arrested, expelled from University of Nairobi + went into exile in TZ. All for opposing KANU as a student leader. In exile for 10 Yrs,” Makau tweeted on Monday.

Makau applied for United Nations (UN) Refugee status while in exile.

He later earned a Masters in Law at the University of Dar es Salaam.

The lawyer then went to Harvard Law School where he graduated in 1984.

Mutua, a close ally of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has remained vocal on national issues facing the country.
