Eleven suspects arrested for allegedly shooting porn movies at a posh Nyali estate, Mombasa County, have been released on cash bail.
While appearing before Shanzu Law Courts Principal Magistrate Florence Maina on Tuesday, the suspects denied the charges.
Two of the eleven suspects, Enock Elisha Ochieng and Mercelline Atieno Onyango, who are being accused of being the owners of Chat Bate, a website for streaming pornography services that were being used to conduct the business were freed on a bond of Sh100,000 and surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Sh50,000.
Nine other women who were working for Mr Ochieng and Ms Atieno were released on a bond of Sh50,000 and surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh.20,000.
State Counsel Shakwila Ayekha had earlier requested the court deny Ms Atieno and her counterpart bond because being owners of the Chat Bate website, they could delete uploaded videos which will be used as evidence against them.
Mr Ayekha also wanted even the other nine suspects detained on grounds that they were likely to communicate with their accomplices who are still at large and who the police are still looking for.
“We are suspecting that other suspects who are involved in this trade are minors who are being used for commercial sex purposes. We ask that the suspects be denied bond at this juncture to allow full disclosure of the trade that is focusing on the minors,” Mr Ayekha said as quoted by Nairobi News.
The case was set for mentioning on July 30 and hearing on November 25, 2019.
