Various universities and colleges across the country have opened for their third semester.
Today (Monday) is a big day at Kenyatta University as freshers are being admitted to the campus. Continuing students are expected to start reporting back to school as from tomorrow (Tuesday).
However, are you aware that some of the continuing students at Kenyatta University never went home during the August holiday? Well, there are many things students who don’t go home during holidays do.
During my studies at KU, I had friends who never went home for holidays due to various reasons. Here are some of the activities students who remained in school during holidays engaged in.
1. Business
Some students have their own business ventures. They dedicate all their time in their businesses when schools close for holidays. This is a good move as some of them even pay for their school fees with the money they earn from such businesses.
2. Part-time jobs
Some students have part-time jobs which they do during weekends and even at night when in session. However, when the school closes for holidays, they take advantage of the opportunity to dedicate more hours to work in a bid to earn more money. Part-time jobs allow students to perfect their skills and gain experience in their respective fields of study.
3. Volunteering
Some students participate in volunteering activities during school holidays. Such activities are very good as they help students perfect their skills in different fields. Some students engage their possible employers which gives them an added advantage when looking for employment.
4. Participate in games
Some students participate in various games and are required to remain in school to train and sharpen their skills. More so, some engage in various competitions during holidays that market them across the nation.
5. Take online courses
Some students have been known to learn various courses while in the university. Some of these courses are learnt online. Most of the students apply for online courses during holidays. This is a great thing to do as the online courses equip students with different skills that help in marketing the student a lot when looking for employment.
