The First Lady Margaret Kenyatta also made President Uhuru Kenyatta proud after taking part in the 10km race.

While delivering his speech at Nyayo Stadium, Ruto requested Uhuru to participate in the 5km race.

He said that the head of state cannot compete in the 2km race because it has been reserved for women.

“I represented the Presidency in the 21 kilometres and I did well. The first lady represented the Presidency in the 10 kilometres. We didn’t have a representative in the 5 kilometres and 2 kilometres.

"I want to thank you, sir, in very special for agreeing that next year you will consider representing the presidency in the remaining two races. But there is a small problem sir. The one you have said you will represent the Presidency is meant for pregnant women,” he said in part.

In response to Ruto, Uhuru said he will give it a try come 2020 but he will consider if he can pass 5 kilometres when that time comes.

The marathon is normally organized on an annual basis. Leaders and Kenyans from all walks of life often compete during the marathon.
