Individuals who earn less than Ksh 30,000 are the most squeezed. As much as they want to explore, have fun and spend money, their bank accounts have their hands tied.
Therefore, surviving on such an amount requires prioritising and letting go of some other luxuries.
If you fall in this salary bracket and want to survive the tough economic conditions in Nairobi, here are some of the habits you should adopt:
1. Keep 'slayqueen' girlfriends at bay
With this kind of salary, having a girlfriend is hard, and much worse if it's a 'slayqueen' girlfriend with financial needs.
If this money can't take proper care of you, having a girlfriend who depends on you for salon, manicure and pedicure expenses is definitely playing yourself.
With this salary, you don’t need a girlfriend but a woman who understands you, and is capable of supplementing your income.
2. Don't eat out
With this kind of salary, make a habit of cooking at home and not dining out because the latter is much more expensive.
It is often more work, but it also saves money in your pocket.
Also, this is not the point of being allergic to leftover foods.
Do not fear them, because they're your saviour. If you have a refrigerator, make large quantities that will last you up to four days.
3. Go slow on partying
Living the party life is quite expensive, especially in Nairobi.
Think about all the money you will use on the drinks, food and a cab back home.
However, I am not implying you should have a boring life.
You and your squad can opt to buy alcohol, turn on the music, and bring the party experience at yours or one of your friend's places instead. After all, it's the company that matters, right?
4.Quit using cabs
If you fall on this salary bracket, get used to the idea that you will frequently be using matatus until you get a good salary upgrade.
Quit the uber and cab life because you can't afford, and all they will do is run your wallet dry.
5. Find a side hustle
Get a side job to complement your income.
Maybe this way, you will be able to upgrade and afford to eat out, maintain that 'slayqueen' girlfriend, go partying every weekend, and perhaps ditch matatus for cabs.
