Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has thrown his weight behind the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over his Kilifi counterpart Aisha Jumwa's expulsion from the party.
This comes only a few weeks after Jumwa's expulsion from ODM over claims of supporting ideologies of a rival political bloc judging by her closeness to Deputy President William Ruto.
Kega on Wednesday, backed the move, noting that the party has proper grounds to punish the firebrand MP for contravening the party loyalty regulations.
"Once one agrees to be part of a political party they must be willing to play as per the party rules. If she cannot cope then she has no other option but to deal with whichever punitive measure the party deems fit," he noted.
However, Jumwa has since vowed to challenge the decision in court, after she on Tuesday rejected the party leader Raila Odinga's offer to apologise and be forgiven.
Kega said that Jumwa's behaviour could not have been punished in any other way, especially after repeatedly refusing to follow the party's directives.
"Party rules must be followed and if one decides to embrace a different ideology then they must either cross over or be ready for what will follow," he added.
Jumwa was to be punished alongside her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori with whom they were declaring their support for Ruto.
Dori was apparently pardoned after apologising to the party's National Governing Committee.
