With a beehive of political activities taking place in Kilifi County over the last few months, Governor Amason Kingi seems to have taken a backseat to continue watching new developments are they span out.

The usually vocal Governor has gone mute leaving the area MPs to dominate the political space which has of late been on Deputy President William Ruto's radar. Perhaps he will roar burst into life at the right time.

With his eyes set on presidency come 2022, Kingi's first battle will be to lock out Ruto out of the region that may springboard his presidential ambitions.

The duo closed ranks back in May in what sent tongues wagging leaving many guessing on his next move.

So far, nearly all Kilifi MPs have declared that they will support the DP come 2022 with only Ganze's Teddy Mwambire remaining loyal to ODM.

What is in Kingi's mind? It's hard to guess. But the former Magarini MP could be out to read the political mood both in his county and the whole region before making a political move in future.

So far, his call for a Coastal party may have been shelved. Further, his decision to attend ODM meeting in Mombasa in June confirms that he is leaving his options open.

Is Kingi becoming a master of political suspense? And if so, will it serve his purpose perfectly or will it backfire?
