Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i is no doubt one of the most hard-working minister and a favourite among President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet ministers.
When President Uhuru Kenyatta toured Gusii in February, he was quick to laud Matiang'i's efforts, adding that the minister had helped him transform key sectors.
"He is a focused guy and I am proud of him. He makes things run and is one person I am proud of. Let's work with him to make Kenya a better place," he said.
Across the country, Matiang'i is also loved by progressive minds despite some resistance from those who think he uses excessive powers contrary to the law.
But at his Nyamira backyard, Dr Matiang'i has found it heard to relate with elected leaders, some who accuse him of using force to make things work.
"I don't support him. He thinks he knows everything. After all he isn't an original Nyamiran. I can't attend his functions no matter what," one MP scolded him, in an interview.
Of the six MPs from Nyamira, only Senator Okong'o Mogeni and Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi seems to go well with the super minister. They often attend his functions.
But MPs Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) and Vincent Kemosi of West Mugirango, have often given Matiang'i's functions a wide berth.
There were claims that he intended to run for Nyamira gubernatorial seat but he has since faded off ever since getting a more lucrative call, Chairperson of National Implementation cabinet committee.
