Speaking on Saturday at Lifunga Kobiero Village in Ugenya, the former Prime Minister said that the same has reached the international community, including Catholic Pope Francis.

He claimed that Pope rejected a car gift the DP recently gave to Kisumu Catholic Archbishop Philip Anyolo during his instalment on January 12.

Raila who was speaking during the funeral service of former Senior Chief Saudi Owino claimed that the Pope has since ordered Bishop Anyolo to return the car to its owner.

"Recently, during the installation of Archbishop of Catholic Diocese of Kisumu, someone took a vehicle to the bishop as a gift. When the Pope was informed that the Archbishop had received a car gift, he ordered that the vehicle is returned.

"And, true to his instruction, the car was returned because it was acquired from proceeds of corruption," he was quoted by the Citizen Digital through the E-Daily.

But in a quick rejoinder, the Archbishop rubbished the claims, saying that he was never ordered to return the Mitsubishi Pajero 2012 model given to him at Uzima Grounds, Kisumu.

This comes amid a reignited hostility and attacks between the two, both of whom are considered to be preparing to battle it out for the presidency in the 2022 elections.
