Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama went into the books of history in 201 when he became the first MP to voluntarily pay taxes.
Muthama’s act, however, did not excite most Members of Parliament.
The MPs felt that the then Kangundo MP had betrayed them for paying tax.
The politician termed his decision to pay tax as personal.
Many MPs have in the past opposed remitting taxes claiming they have lots of responsibilities.

Muthama has been very vocal when it comes to matters of national interests.
The former senator has been speaking on different issues affecting the common "mwananchi" since he got into politics.
He has been a staunch supporter of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Muthama has been urging Kalonzo to traverse the country seeking political support from various leaders in his bid to become the Kenyan President in 2022.
He believes that Kalonzo is the man to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta once he leaves power.
Kalonzo has severally unsuccessfully made attempts to become President.
The politician surprised many when he decided not to defend his seat in the August 2017 elections for reasons best known to himself.
