Security agencies have recovered and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Garissa County.
Two units comprising of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) from Sangailu and Special Forces team from Hulugho discovered the explosive device and safely detonated the explosive device.
The explosive which was weighing 5kg is believed to have been planted by three Al-Shabaab suspects who opened fire on the officers when they tried to escape.
Galmagala Chief Inspector Police (CIP) Kwanusu said the officers immediately secured the area and recovered the explosive device.
“Our officers managed to safely detonate the Improvised Explosive Device that was planted by the militants,” Kwanusu said.
Inspector Kwanusu said a gun fight ensued when they approached the scene and during the confrontation the Al-Shabaab militants managed to escape with gun wounds.
The Inspector asked members of the public to report any suspicious people with bullet wounds seeking medical attention.
He further urged members of the public to work with security agencies and join the war against terror by sharing information on security threats.
