Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has remained confident of delivering for the people of Nairobi despite emerging claims that he used his HIV status to get exit from Kamiti Prison in 2001.
Speaking on Saturday, the county boss admitted that he was indeed condemned at the Kamiti prison at some point, adding that the same will not deter him from serving.
He said that just like other notable African figures, imprisonment did not stop him from reaching the top, adding that the claims and attacks won't either.
Sonko likened himself to former South African President Nelson Mandela, founding father Jomo Kenyatta and former Premier Raila Odinga, all of whom made it after imprisonment.
“Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was in Kapenguria Prison for 7 years and he later became the President. Nelson Mandela was in prison for 25 years and also became the President of South Africa.
“Raila Odinga was in Shimo La Tewa Prison and later Kamiti Prison and that did not stop him from becoming Prime Minister…I was in Prison courtesy of you great people of Nairobi and God, but now I'm the 2nd Governor of this great city of Nairobi, he posted on Facebook.
He accused the media of being in the front line in attacking him, claiming that they are using his name to elevate their sales, through malicious content.
Comparing himself to the mentioned leaders, he noted that his future might be bright, thanks to his current woes.
“This is a clear indication that this Sonko, God willing and through the same Great Power of the people will one day be at least something more than who he is today!" he said.
He has been on the spotlight since last Saturday, when he engaged Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris in a public spat during the Madaraka Day celebrations in the county.
