Residents of Gakero in Kisii are in grief after a nine-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs on Wednesday morning.
Confirming the incident, area chief Arnold Simba said the boy was playing with other children when the morning incident occurred.
According to the chief, residents in the area heard the children screaming and when they rushed to the scene, they found the young boy bleeding following the attack by the dogs.
The boy was taken to Ogembo Hospital where he was pronounced dead a few minutes after arriving at the facility.
“We have already started to gather information on who the owners of the dogs that caused the death of an innocent boy are. The boy died due to excessive bleeding as he had sustained serious injuries on his stomach,” said Simba.
The chief warned residents who own dogs, noting that action will be taken against owners of dogs that attack residents.
“A few weeks ago we warned the owners of such dogs to ensure that they are tamed or ensure they undergo a medical process that will ensure they are not harmful to the locals,” said Simba.
The body of the child was taken to the Ogembo Hospital Morgue.
