Siaya Senator James Orengo has remained silent on the concluded Migori senatorial race, which saw former Energy Cabinet Minister Ochillo Ayacko declared victor.

Similarly, the leader was never at any point spotted in the region during Ayacko’s campaigns, events that were, however, attended by other Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) top figures.

This could be as a result of the sufficient deployment of leaders to drum up support for Ayacko, a brigade that was largely led by Suna East lawmaker Junet Mohamed.

A section of ODM top bosses led by party leader Raila Odinga and his deputy Hassan Joho were also present on different occasions, with Orengo most probably not seeing the need to avail himself.

Further, as a professional lawyer, he most likely had his own issues to attend to, and since the campaigns were fully attended to, he decided to concentrate on his clients and pending court cases.

Finally, the leader might have predicted Ayacko’s win anyway, considering that he was vying on an opposition ticket in a region largely friendly to the opposing side.

This comes at a time when ODM still enjoys the largest support in the region, despite the attempted invasion by the ruling Jubilee Party on some parts of the county, especially Kuria East and West constituencies.

Therefore, he might have not seen any need to avail himself as the win would have ended in the former Rongo parliamentarian’s basket anyway, a prediction that was realized.

Ayacko was on Tuesday declared winner after garnering slightly over 85, 000 votes, beating his closest challenger, Eddy Oketch of the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK).

The youthful aspirant secured 60, 555 votes.
