This happened on Tuesday evening at Kiareni village in Marani, Kisii County.

Confirming the incident, area Assistant Chief, Isaac Mokwanyi said the deceased Bernard Omweri hanged himself after he spent  Sh20,000 he was given by his father to pay school fees at Nyaore Youth Polytechnic.

"Omweri joined Nyaore Polytechnic in May and he was undertaking electronics course. He was given Sh20,000 to pay school fees and use some money for his personal upkeep, but he decided to gamble with the money," said the chief.

Mokwanyi said when the deceased realised he had lost all his money, he returned home where he picked an electric cable and hanged himself.

"He feared his father who is too strict because he used the money in gambling and never went to school as he was instructed. His lifeless body was recovered hanging from the roof of his house by his young sister who went to call him for supper," he noted.

The chief said he alerted police officers from Marani who came and took the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue.
