The move by former Cherang’any Member of Parliament Kipruto Kirwa to appear in various local television channels to speak on Rift Valley politics as well as the state of the nation is a clear indicator that he is strategising to re-enter active politics.

The Amani National Congress deputy party leader dominated Rift Valley politics for two decades. He was one of the most outspoken Kalenjin legislators during retired President Daniel Arap Moi’s regime and also served as an Agriculture minister during Mwai Kibaki tenure.

Political analysts argue that the 59-year-old politician is reviving his political vibrancy which he is said to have lost in 2007 when Joshua Kutuny unseated him.

Kirwa has also stopped his attacks on Deputy President William Ruto, an indication that he might be afraid of losing the support of his constituents, the majority of whom are expected to rally behind the DP in his 2022 presidential bid.

Considering Kutuny is a fierce critic of the DP and recently linked him to the maize scandal, Kirwa might use this to his advantage to ensure the MP doesn't retain his seat.

Kutuny's criticism of the DP might cause him to face opposition from Ruto's supporters, a move that will pave way for Kirwa to clinch the parliamentary seat.
