A middle-aged man is fighting for his life at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after he was hit by a speeding PSV vehicle while crossing a road at Gesusu area in Nyacheki, Kisii County on Monday evening.
Witnesses say the man, identified as Abel Ogeto was heading home when the accident occurred.
“The accident occurred at around 7pm after Ogeto alighted from a motorbike and was crossing the road. The speeding matatu came from the opposite direction and hit him. The driver sped off from the scene,” said Enock Orina, a witness.
Mr Orina said witnesses did not manage to record the matatu’s registration number.
“Residents rushed to the scene and found Ogeto lying in a pool of blood. A Probox car which was heading to Kisii town took him to the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment,” he added.
Bernard Ondimu, a doctor attending to Ogeto said he sustained injuries on his head and leg.
“Ogeto is responding well to medication following the injuries he sustained on his forehead. His left leg also developed a fracture,” said Ondimu.
Kisii County Police Commander Hassan Abdi warned drivers against careless driving and speeding.
“Anyone with information about the driver who hit Ogeto and fled should record a statement to aid police with investigations,” said Abdi.
