A new plot is in the making in a bid to bar Deputy President William Ruto from the presidency come the 2022 general elections, Lugari lawmaker Ayub Savula has revealed.
Speaking on Saturday, the parliamentarian explained that a number of his colleagues are working on amending the law to compel all aspirants to disclose the source of their wealth.
This comes at a time when the DP has been facing tough questions regarding the same, with a section of politicians questioning his weekly contributions in churches and fundraisers, at times amounting to millions of shillings.
Speaking in Mumias, Kakamega, Savuka said that 100 MPs are in support of the amendment that will see anyone who cannot account for their money locked out of the race.
“Once the law is amended, it will be mandatory for the DP and other politicians eyeing the top seat on the land to explain and account for their wealth failure to which the electoral agency will block them from contesting,”he was quoted by the Standard.
He added that the plan is directly aimed at fighting the DP whom he said must now come clean on his source of income, failure to which he said his (Ruto) name will not feature in the ballot.
“I can tell you for free the Deputy President’s name will not be on the ballot box unless he comes out clear on how he amerced a lot of wealth," he added.
The MP was speaking at a funeral ceremony in Mumias East, before leaving for Nairobi where he was to meet other MPs to draft the bill.
Ruto has repeatedly dismissed those asking the source of his money, terming them jealous people who are not willing to give back to God.
