After the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) on Friday overturned the decision by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to expel Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa from the party, many Kenyans have taken on social media to congratulate the lawmaker.
The three members of the PPDT said ODM disciplinary committee proceedings were invalid and lacked effect in law, thus violating the constitution.
ODM had expelled Aisha from the party after the lawmaker started promoting Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 political agenda.
“The tribunal hereby declares that the proceedings violated Article 47 of the constitution ... were unprocedural and violated provisions of the Political Parties Act, Fair Administrative Action Act and Article 8.4.2 of the ODM,” the Tribunal said as quoted by Nation.
Aisha Jumwa received the ruling with happiness, saying it was "justice not only to me but to the people of Malindi."
Through her Facebook post, Aisha thanked God, family members and those who stood with her during the whole process.
"I thank God for this victory!I wish to take this opportunity to recognize the Political Party’s Dispute Tribunal for upholding the law and for rendering justice not only to me but to the people of Malindi," she said.
Aisha Jumwa's victory over ODM has been received with mixed reactions, but most Kenyans congratulated her.
