President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated his South Africa counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa upon his re-election.
President Ramaphosa retained the seat despite his African National Congress (ANC) party facing massive criticisms over corruption.
Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in power, said that the re-election of Ramaphosa is a clear indicator that the people of South African still believe in his leadership.
He urged him to continue serving the tax payers without any form of fear or favor after retaining the post in one of the most watched contests.
“President Kenyatta has sent a congratulatory message to HE President @CyrilRamaphosa on his election victory. The President terms the win by the African National Congress Party a demonstration of the faith South Africans have in the leadership of President Ramaphosa,” State house tweeted after Ramaphosa was declared the winner.
Ramaphosa retained the seat with an absolute majority in Parliament.
Ramaphosa, 66, rose to power in 2018 after ANC compelled former president Jacob Zuma to resign.
Zuma's resignation came after his government was put on the spot over corruption allegations and economic decline.
