The war between the Mombasa County Assembly and executive has escalated.
The Senate has now summoned Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and the County Speaker Aharub Khatri to shed more light over what is transpiring between the county's executive and legislature.
The MCAs have revealed their plans to impeach Transport CEC Tawfiq Balala from office.
The Orange Democratic Movement has called the 14 MCAs to a meeting scheduled to take place in Nairobi on Tuesday where they are set to discuss the matter in detail.
Confirming the news, County Communication Director Richard Chacha said that Joho, who is also the ODM deputy party leader, is expected to appear before the Senate at 11 am and Khatri later on in the course of the day.
"The governor will appear before the Senate at 11 am and the Speaker later in the afternoon,'' Chacha said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Joho and Khatri are expected to appear before Senate's committee on Devolution.
According to Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki, the MCAs are being probed for endless wrangles in the county after they revealed the plan to impeach Balala. They have maintained that Balala is unfit to hold public office because of his poor record performance.
The Senate has, however, asked the MCAs to postpone the impeachment.
Governor Joho, who is completing his second and final term in office, has maintained that he will ensure Balala remains in office citing he is competent.
