Kisumu County is one of the prettiest destinations to visit across the nation, but at the same time quite scary at night.

Here are some of the people you could meet in Kisumu villages late in the night.

1. Night runners

Night runners are a common phenomenon in Luo Nyanza and are usually harmless apart from their anti-sleep techniques to deny villagers a night rest.

They usually come out to work at midnight and operate until dawn, their main job being raking sprints across the village and kicking people's doors while pouring sand on the roof.

Though it will be very hard to meet them face to face, as they strive to hide at night while also naked, you will always hear them running around and hiding in bushes.

2. Farmers

Most parts of Kisumu villages are known for their agricultural production, especially rice and sugarcane.

In rice farming, for instance, there comes a point where farmers are forced to stay out all night to take care of harvested product awaiting transportation to the National Irrigation Board depot in Ombeyi, Muhoroni.

You are likely to meet such people keeping vigil at night to keep off thieves who might want to make away with the harvest.

3. Thieves

Some parts of Kisumu, especially in Muhoroni, Seme and Nayakatch are known for cattle theft, a practice that has been in existence since the days of Luanda Magere.

Until now, it remains intact as the thieves from the neighbouring Rift Valley regions strike in collusion with rogue locals.

Meeting such people calls for immediate hiding as you might end up injured or dead.

Common petty thieves also operate at night.
