The Garissa county fire department has once again hit the headlines over an alleged poor response to fire outbreaks.
This follows a Thursday afternoon incident where a fire broke out at a building in Bulla Hodan, where the fire department took hours before responding to the disaster.
The huge blaze which broke out at around 3 p.m in the afternoon and swiftly brought down the entire building, reducing into ashes before the much-needed assistance from the department could land.
Though the firefighters arrived moments later, the fierce inferno could not be contained effectively since they lacked all the requisite equipment to attend to it.
Adequate but highly inexperienced personnel came to the scene but the death of the fire engine frustrated their efforts to arrest the s fire that was threatening to spread to other nearby buildings.
However, residents who came to the scene to help contain the fierce fire were quick to point accusing fingers at the department saying they were ill-prepared for a fire outbreak.
"Had the county personnel been well equipped, the fire could have been fully contained. They should just upgrade their systems," said Gulet Abdirazak, one of the residents.
Just a few days ago, a fierce fire razed down several business premises in Garissa Town, with the same department bearing the blame over a poor response.
