Fear has gripped Kawethei villagers in Kangundo sub-county of Machakos county.
This is after a 45-year-old man was killed on Friday night.
The man is a well-known businessman at Kawethei market.
Kangundo police boss Benjamin Ong'ombe said that the man was found lying on the road a few metres from his home, badly injured.
"It was his son who found him lying on the roadside with serious injuries he took him to the hospital," said Ong'ombe.
He said that the man had deep cut wounds an indication that he was attacked with a panga.
He observed that the man lost his life as he was being taken to Kangundo level four hospital for treatment.
"He wasn't dead yet but before he could reach the hospital he succumbed to the injuries suffered," said Ong'ombe.
His body was moved to Kangundo level four hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting an autopsy.
Ong'ombe said that the police have launched a probe to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the man where he said that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
"We have made no arrests yet but we won't relent, day and night we will search for the culprits until the face the law," he said.
