The exercise has been launched with an aim of establishing HIV prevalence as well as knowing the data of sexually transmitted infection.

Wajir County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Public Health Abdihakim Billow said during the exercise, officials will seek to establish whether persons on HIV treatment have their viral suppressed and how well the treatment they are receiving is working.

Speaking in Wajir County Mr Billow said the exercise will provide the county with data that will assist in understanding and plan better in the HIV response.

According to Mr Billow, the survey by KENPHIA will include an evaluation of the national estimates of the prevalence of HIV in children aged below four years.

The exercise will further include an adult national prevalence of transmitted HIV drug resistance, syphilis, and hepatitis B infections.

“The primary objective of KENPHIA is to measure the national incidence of HIV in Kenya, measure the national and county level prevalence as well as both the national and county level of viral suppression,” he added.

The survey in Wajir County will cover 12 clusters, 2 in each of the 6 sub-counties, with each cluster consisting of 25 households.
