Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto now wants ODM leader Raila Odinga to continue putting the government on check by playing his opposition leader role effectively.
Since reaching truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mr Odinga has supported all initiatives by government and has rarely spoken about the ongoing corruption cases in government in his capacity as opposition leader.
And Mr Ruto, Odinga's former ally, said the former Prime Minister should consider injecting fresh blood to the opposition as enshrined in the constitution.
“We are of the opinion that this country should be united and Kenyans embrace each other socially and economically, the only issue is that we are used to being monitored to serve in a given office. This is why Raila should do his job,” he said.
In previous interviews, Mr Odinga has often denied claims that his decision to work with government had weakened opposition politics in the country, instead, he says, the country needed much stability after a divisive election in 2017.
On constitutional changes, Ruto backed amendments of few clauses, adding that those running for Presidency should be allowed to contest parliamentary seats like in the old constitution.
He said: "Some sections should be amended. For instance, those running for Presidency should also go for MP seats. This allows them to serve in other capacity other than that they may miss out."
Mr Ruto also accused a section of politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto of sabotaging the fight against corruption, adding that attacks on DCI and DPP are unwarranted.
