Following a statement released by the Garissa deputy governor Abdi Dagane on sacking some lazy staff member, reports have emerged that the move is targeted at specific individuals who have been reading from different scripts on issues revolving around county administration.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting in Garissa town on Friday, Dagane hinted that county workers who abscond duties on the pretext that there is no work would be sacked with immediate effect.
He said some of the alleged staff were out chasing private tenders and private businesses at the expense of the core roles they were assigned by the executive.
"County staff were hired to help the executive deliver its mandate to the electorate of Garissa county. We have reports that some workers are absconding their duties and failing to report to their respective offices because there is no work. They should think outside the box and create some work. I can assure that it will not be business as usual. They should justify their existence at the county payroll," a visibly angered Dagane stated.
His sentiments were echoed by the county secretary who also said all county staff should be subjected to performance evaluation, adding that all those who fail in the exercise would be weeded out.
