Police in Bomet County are holding a driver of a lorry that was nabbed ferrying what us believed to be bomb-making materials.
The lorry with registration number KBT 779Y was found with the materials at the back after being flagged down by police officers at a road block, two kilometres from Bomet Town.
The same was confirmed by area Police Commander Naomi Ichami who said that the vehicle was being driven towards Bomet Town, adding that the police are yet to establish where the material was being ferried to.
“The lorry was being driven towards Bomet and we are yet to establish the destination of the materials,” she was quoted by the Standard.
The police boss added that the police in the area are on high alert after the finding, and are holding the driver who is helping them with investigations.
“Shockingly, some of the materials were loaded up to the co-drivers seat, which is very wrong considering the danger it poses," said Ichami.
She revealed that the vehicle in question belongs to the Nitro Chemicals Limited, and was carrying 50 detonators and 1,750 kilograms of ammonium nitrate.
She called upon members of the public to cooperate with the police by sharing information with the police to ensure that security and safety prevails in the area.
