Munya was named in the plot alongside his health counterpart Sicily Kariuki, Joe Mucheru (ICT), James Macharia (Transport) and other top state officials from the Mt Kenya region.

However, Munya now says that the claims are very suspicious, and most likely meant to force the leaders from the region into following a specific political course in the 2022 elections.

Speaking on Tuesday night, he, however, stressed on the need for Kenyans to be left to make their own political decisions, while apparently referring to Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions.

"It is very curious for someone to say that a meeting is being held to allegedly eliminate him. Kenyans should be free to plan and support whoever they want to vote for when the right time comes," he said.

He also said that their meeting at La Mada Hotel, where they were allegedly planning the assassination, was not a secret meeting as is being said, having been attended by 40 people.

According to him, the meeting was solely based on beneficial matters and not stopping Ruto from succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"We would not meet to go and plan how to stop somebody from succeeding somebody because we are only 40 people, how many votes do we have)?" he posed.
