Former 2017 Embakasi East aspirant, Jubilee candidate Francis Mureithi has completed renaming of Nakumatt FC to Mt Kenya United and brought on board Gatundu MP Moses Kuria as the club patron.
The renaming comes barely seven months after Mureithi bought the team from the Nakumatt Holdings.
With Nakumatt staring financial crisis and relegation to the lower tier, Mureithi supported the team financially; a thing that saw the team survive the relegation battle in the playoffs with 3-0 aggregate win over NSL side, Ushuru FC.
Mureithi said that the financial struggle faced by the team will be a thing of the past and promised that his side will be a force to reckon with in the new season, which begins in early December.
“We promise to have a new beginning of vibrant competitive soccer during the new season. Mt Kenya United is a team to watch," said Mureithi.
Meanwhile, Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria comes on board as the club patron. Kuria noted that renaming Nakumatt FC to Mt Kenya United fulfills his dream to have a team from the larger Mt Kenya region play in Kenya Premier League.
“I am excited to serve as club patron for Mt Kenya United Football Club after my partner and club chair Francis Mureithi and I took over the management of the former Nakumatt FC and renamed it," said Kuria.
Moses Kuria also bid farewell to his boyhood club, Gor Mahia and said that he will always have a soft spot for K'Ogalo.
"I bid farewell to my club of birth and choice, Gor Mahia. Though I sail to new waters, you will remain in my heart. Mt Kenya United is your new Mashemeji re-loaded and I look forward to the new Mashemeji Derby re-loaded," said Kuria.
Furthermore, Kuria noted their focus is on winning the Premier League, and they will bolster the squad to ensure that. He said that they will also develop junior and women teams.
In addition, Kuria announced that team has two corporate sponsors; Mobisave and Eqwipetrol.
