A section of Jubilee Party politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto has said that they are ready and willing to support the proposed referendum.
This comes at a time when the constitutional amendments debate seems to get more intense and has so far absorbed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is in support.
Speaking in Bureti, Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwah said that they are ready for them as long as they will address the problems of the common citizen.
“We want to make it clear that we are not scared of a referendum to amend the Constitution so long as we are told how it will help Kenyans,” Ichungwa was quoted by the People Daily.
Ruto's side has been opposed to the changes terming them a plot by election losers to accommodate themselves in government after failing to make it there constitutionally.
But on his side, Ruto refused to weigh in on the issue, instead of calling upon politicians to stop politicking and concentrate on service delivery for the electorate and Kenyans.
Present leaders included Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Nelson Koech (Belgut), Catherine Waruguru (Laikipia), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) and area Governor Paul Chepkwony.
Ruto who has been fully opposed to the changes softened his heart during the Chatham House conference earlier in the month but opposed the attempts to expand the executive.
Instead, he proposed the introduction of the official opposition leader slot to house the second runners up in the presidential race.
