Janice Ntinyari and Valentine Kinoti were on Wednesday released by Meru Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Muraguri over lack of evidence and a similar request by the prosecution.

Through State council James Kinyua, the prosecution said that the evidence it had collected against the duo is not enough to accommodate their arraignment.

The duo was last week detained at the Meru Central Police station on the same judge's orders, to give room for investigations as had been requested by the investigators.

The two are said to have been with the priest on the night he was attacked and stabbed by an unknown assailant outside an entertainment joint in Makutano, Meru County.

The priest suffered an injury on the head leading to his death and was buried on Monday in a function that was used by area religious leaders to call for a speedy probe.

Father Murangiri had been posted at the Limbine Parish in Tigania West, reports the Nation.
