Kambas, both men, and women are known for wearing ‘shouting’ colors like orange, yellow, green and red.
It is easier to tell whether someone is a Kamba or not by looking at how he or she is dressed.
It is not bad for one to wear clothes with shouting colors as the dressing is a person’s personal choice.
Kambas have, however, have learned to take the jokes that come with them wearing shouting colors.
Here are the two reasons why Kambas wear ‘shouting’ colors:
1. Shouting colors define them
Cynthia Mutheu, a fashion designer in Machakos town said Kambas associate or love shouting colors because the colors reflect who they are.
She observes that colors like red and yellow rhymes with their light skin making them look spectacular and stand out from the rest.
“We love these shouting colors because they make us stand out from the rest,” Mutheu said.
2. Portrays their ‘cool’ nature
Mutheu notes that shouting colors like red, green and yellow reflects Kambas calmness, warmness towards people, togetherness, and peace.
“Kambas are peace loving people and the colors we wear portrays our coolness,” she said.
John Musili, a fashion blogger says every community has its own preferred colors when it comes to dressing.
He says Kambas love for shouting colors has in a way contributed to the trending fashion design in the country and abroad.
“We are happy of being called ‘chameleons’ because of how we mix colors,” he said.
Jokes have been made on why Kambas love shouting colors with some claiming that it is because that Ukambani region does get enough rainfall hence people choose colors that don’t show dirt.
However, the case, the color of the dress one chooses to wear remains his or her personal choice. And people should not be judged on the personal choices they make.
