The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 kicks off in Egypt on Friday, with Kenya playing their first game on Sunday against Algeria.
Here is a preview of which Kenyan player’s to watch for in the group stages;
Ayub Timbe
Only very close followers of Belgium league and Chinese Super league would have known much about the 26-year-old Beijing Renhe winger Ayub Timbe before the DRC friendly last week. A fast, cheeky winger who likes to take defenders on, Timbe already looks key to Kenya's chances to advance.
Michael Olunga
Settling into a new league and a new country is never easy for any player, the Kashiwa Reysol striker comes into the tournament off the back of scoring 6 goals from 11 games for his club.
Joash Onyango
In defence, Onyango is one to keep an eye on; he impressed in the season for Gor Mahia. Aside from the hair cuts, the defender plays with great maturity and is one of the most composed centre-backs in Kenya.
Victor Wanyama
With plenty of Premier League quality and experience with Southampton and Tottenham, he will have to carry the burden of setting the tempo in midfield. While Wanyama may not always get the accolades that he deserves, there is no doubt of his importance in the team.
Francis Kahata
If Kenya are to advance from the group stages, they will need Kahata to play a major role. The playmaker played an Integral part of the team that saw Gor advance to the quarterfinals of the CAF confederations cup.
