National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has sent a message aimed at demotivating Senate Minority Leader James Orengo in his efforts to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.
Orengo has vowed to initiate a process in Parliament to push Ruto out of office over alleged gross misconduct.
But Duale said it would be an exercise in futility for the Siaya Senator to table a motion to impeach the DP who enjoys massive support among Members of Parliament and Senators.
The Garissa Township MP observed that the impeachment motion must originate from the National Assembly where Orengo is not a member and therefore he must get an MP to initiate his agenda.
Even if Orengo finds a legislator to table the motion in the National Assembly, Duale noted it would be "impossible" to marshal more than two-thirds of MPs to vote for the impeachment.
He wondered how the Siaya Senator would manage to convince more than 233 MPs to support his motion when the government has repeatedly failed to raise such numbers to support the controversial Gender Bill.
"Getting 233 MPs to support such a move is a political nightmare! We have tried it unsuccessfully five times in Bills to amend the Constitution. It is an impossibility under the current circumstances," he told the Standard.
The National Assembly Majority Leader related the impeachment motion against Ruto to Orengo's failed mission to remove retired President Daniel Arap Moi from office in 1999 through the vote of no confidence.
"My friend Orengo knows that this is an impossibility, but he has chosen once more to market cheap and worthless fishing expedition," Duale remarked.
