At the height of his political career that officially kicked off in 2022, former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana was tipped for greatness.  However, 15 years later, he finds himself in an awkward political position.

After his convincing win during the 2002 general election as NARC tsunami swept KANU from power, Mungatana was among the brilliant young men that were expected to dominate debates in Parliament. His eloquence lit up the August House.

Tried and tested, and banking on his new found political muscle, he was re-elected in 2007 as he defied all odds to survive ODM wave that swept across the Coast region and was appointed by President Mwai Kibaki to serve as assistant Minister.

In the run to the 2013 election, Mungatana was a key cog in Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA party that was readying itself for a ferocious political battle with then Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the Kibaki succession race.

He continuously threw sucker-punches to Raila. In short, in Mungatana, Uhuru had a real force to stop Raila.

Uhuru won the Presidential seat. However, for Mungatana, unexpected happened as he was trounced by little-known Hussein Dadho in the Tana River gubernatorial race.

He tried to mount a comeback in 2017 but once again lost in the gubernatorial race and this time round to Dado Godana.

Ahead of the 2022 political contest, will the once-powerful MP bring his career back on track?
