Being tested for HIV/AIDS is very important and it is always a recommendation that you visit the VCT after a couple of months to confirm your status.
However, on some occasions, you may want to have the test when you have put yourself at a risk like having unprotected sex and such.
Here is when you can get tested for HIVAids;
1. When pregnant.
According to Nivin Todd, MD, an Obstetricians and Gynecologists as quoted on webmd, it is a requisite all pregnant women should get tested for HIV. Reason being, in the event you are found HIV positive, this will help bar the dissemination of virus to your unborn child.
Moreover, you will be advised on what to do or eat to keep the fetus in good shape.
2. If you have put yourself at risk.
You already know the vices that make you fall victim to the disease. A good example is after making love with an unprotected person whom you don't know his or her status.
In such a scenario, you will have to visit a nearby hospital for testing. You never know. The doctor will give you post-exposure prophylaxis only if you are exposed to HIV.
3. Once a year.
Having the test yearly is for your own good. It is a way to keep you on toes and make you exercise care so that you don't end up contracting the malady.
