Deputy President President William Ruto on Friday visited Garissa County.
The Deputy President was in the county to officiate the Pastoralist Leadership Summit 2019.
It is the first time the DP was visiting Garissa this year (2019) having made several visits to the county several times in 2018.
The DP was warmly received at the Garissa airstrip by the Garissa county leadership led by Governor Ali Bunow Korane and area MP Aden Duale.
The summit was attended by 15 governors from the pastoralist areas, Senators, MPs and development partners.
During the summit, leaders who spoke vowed to push development agenda in their regions.
The issue of referendum was also discussed with Duale opposing any attempts to merge or reduce on the number of counties.
Duale said that they will support referendum only if its aim is not to reduce counties.
The debate on corruption also cropped up during the summit with Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen warning investigating agencies against using 'falsehoods' and 'fake data' to fight corruption.
